Joseph E. Krull, CPP, CISSP, CISA was in Houston after people were evacuated from New Orleans. He volunteered to work with a team from Accenture to assist State employees at the Astrodome, Reliant Center and the Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston.

He was part of a team registering evacuees and helping them register for assistance - specifically food stamps. He did computer support, data entry and ultimately, interviews with the evacuees. In 13 hours on Saturday, our team of 22 people (State, Accenture and a partner company Maximus) processed thousands of evacuees from all areas of the affected areas - the bulk of them from New Orleans. Accenture developed a computer program to streamline the registration process from several days to 12 hours and the State employees were glad to have this help. Each evacuee family was provided with a Lone Star card - a type of controlled debit card that can be used for approved food items at any grocery store. Every family he saw was appreciative and several people broke down and cried when the card was handed over. They praised Texas hospitality. Amazingly, he heard very little criticism about the mistakes made in the early days of the crisis. These people just want to get on with their lives.

He was glad to help. It opened his eyes about how some people live.
Roman Media, Chip Meadows, David Rodriguez, Sandra Shirley were in attendance at the first annual High School Cyber Defense Competition held at the Downtown Campus of UTSA. This was our first event outside of the local chapter. Dr. White enthusiastically embrassed ISACA members for their support. While observing, some members noted other ways that ISACA could get involved. One suggestion was a forensics event within the competition. Dr. White was very receptive of the idea and getting ISACA on-board.

Roman Media and David Rodriguez stayed for the team competitions and helped the CIAS crew strike the event.
